Management has selected zone 12 to participate in the caser/streeter initiative. This is a new pilot program testing the efficiency of such a system. Casers come in early and case mail in the morning preparing for the streeters to come in later in the morning, pick up their accountables etc, and go right to the street. Managements goal to begin this test is February 25, 2012. More info to follow.
ATTENTION!!!
Every letter carrier across the country should have received a piece of mail from national headquarters concerning H.R. 2309. Passage of this bill would devastate the Postal Service and put tens of thousands of jobs in jeopardy. Take the time to read this important letter and join the teleconference on Sunday, November 6th at 7:30 pm. As hard as we have tried to get members involved, turn out for these events have been sparse and we hope you will take the time to listen in on this telephone call. What has to happen before YOU will start to take these threats seriously and do something to save yoir job????

Branch 3 letter carriers descended on the First Niagara Center to collect signatures for their petitions to Save America's Postal Service. There are only a few days left to turn in your petitions? Have YOU collected your 10 signatures?

Branch 3 held its 3rd annual Rock-n-Bowl-a-Thon at Striker's Lanes in West Seneca for M.D.A. This event is free for members. All we ask is that the bowler raise a minimum of $50 to donate to M.D.A. A great time was had by all. Hopefully, we can get even more than the 22 people who showed up this year.

Branch 3 participated in the 1st Annual Fill The Satchel Day for Muscular Dystrophy. Last year the NALC presented a $1.75 million dollar check to M.D.A. at their annual telethon in September. Although the weather did not cooperate, and volunteers were few, Branch 3 still collected over $500, to put toward this years donation.

Letter carriers from Branch 3 participated in a "Save The Postal Service" rally at the Niagara Square post office. The rally was just one of over 500 held nationwide in support of our cause. The rally was attended by local unions, many dignitaries and one of our best friends, Brian Higgins, from the 27th Congressional District.

National President Fred Rolando was our special guest at Branch 3's 73rd annual "Old Timers Night". Also attending this annual function were two of labors biggest supporters, Congresswoman Kathy Hochul and Congressman Brian Higgins. National Business Agent Dan Toth also attended. We honored 11 members for reaching 50 and 55 years of membership in the NALC. These fine men helped form the union we take for granted today. If you weren't there to say "thank you", I hope you will attend next year.

Earlier this afternoon, President Obama stunned the NALC when he agreed with the postmaster general in his attempt to eliminate Saturday delivery. Although President Obama proposed to return $6.9 billion in postal pension surplus in FERS to the Postal Service, his plan for a deferral of the next two $5.5 billion dollar pre-funding payments instead of outright reform is dissappointing.
As NALC President Fred Rolando stated, these are just proposals and cannot become law unless Congress adopts them. We continue to believe in the importance of 6 day delivery to the American public and will work with everyone involved to preserve it.
A full report on President Obama's proposals will be posted on the NALC web site on Tuesday.

Don't make me say, "I told you so"
This morning President Bob McLennan appeared on the morning show on WBEN 930AM. You can hear his comments here. The Post Office was featured on WBEN most of the day with Tom Bauerle and Sandy Beach each hosting shows
dealing with the proposed closings of some area post offices. Although there was a great deal of good information, it was a bit startling to hear several callers claim that they could survive without the Postal Service. We can't help but wonder if Canadians thought the same thing last month when Canada Post went on strike and the government forced the carriers back to work to avoid an economic collapse.

With the new Shared Services doing most of the functions of the personnel office, problems are coming up which can effect every active letter carrier. We are asking you to call the union office when a member RETIRES or TRANSFERS to a different Post Office. The form 50’s are not being cut in a timely manner and this will effect bidding and promotions to become a regular full-time carrier.
Don’t forget if something is happening at your station retirements, parties, births etc let Jack Lewis the Editor of the BUZZ know early enough so it can get in the newsletter in time for everybody to see.
