My name is Kent Hankin and I was elected Assistant Secretary-Treasurer in 1990 and I assumed the job of Secretary-Treasurer in 1991 from former Treasurer Robert Connors. Before that I was the Steward in both Central Park and Amherst from the years 1979 to 1990. I gave up being steward so that someone else would take the position and start learning the job.

Let's go back from there. I am a Vietnam era veteran and started in the Postal Service in 1977 as a casual mail handler, later that year I was hired full time as a clerk, I became an LSM clerk and finally a carrier. On May 28, 1978 I transferred to Buffalo from Branch #210 in Rochester. I have spent most of my Postal career in three (3) different stations in Buffalo. They were Amherst, Central Park and Cheektowaga. I have been either an officer or a steward since I started here in Buffalo.

I have attended every National Convention, State Convention and Congressional Breakfast since 1983. I want to thank a few of the Old Timers who took me under their wings and helped and encouraged me to help others. They are Larry Westphal, Don Westphal, Tom Arnone, Bob Connors, Bob Burns and Dennis Krause. I know I really am forgetting some, memory going. I would also like to Thank Branch 210 and Past President Norm LeFois.

I am married to Mary have two adult children Derek & Mary Margaret and one granddaughter Samantha. I live in Depew attend New Covenant Tabernacle Church in Tonawanda. I work with the Men’s ministry on the Men’s night out. My wife and I run the Couple’s Fellowship (we have a date night for married couples). I coached Lancaster/Depew Little League, Depew Saints Hockey, was an officer in the Holy Name at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament collect for the CFC, station Food Drive coordinator and I was elected as a Democratic committee person in 1998. I worked on Senator Clinton’s, Congressman Higgins and work the phone banks for Senator Kerry’s bid for President. My son works for Citifinancial. My daughter works for People’s Inc working with the handicapped, volunteers at the Buffalo Airport and works the Nursery at Church. My granddaughter will be starting school in Depew in September.
